The U.S. has the highest level of CO2 emissions in the world, accounting for nearly a quarter of global emissions. And with only 5 percent of the global population, the U.S. consumes about 25% of the world's energy. This graph shows U.S. energy use by sector. Various transportation accounts for 36 percent of our energy use; the industrial sector is responsible for 34 percent.

We ought to stop growing enough food to feed a major portion of the rest of the world and then our usage would go down.
